Prices and paying
Which option should I pick?
If you can pay up front, Build and own works out cheaper over time and the site is yours from day one. The monthly plan suits you if you would rather spread the cost and have edits and support included.
When do I pay?
Build and own: half when you accept the quote and half when the site goes live. Monthly plan: nothing up front, then €75 a month from launch, with a 12-month minimum term.
What will I pay each year once the site is built?
With Build and own, hosting is included with no yearly fee, so the only yearly cost is your domain name. That is paid to the domain company, not to me, and the cost varies. The care plan (€25 a month) is optional.
What do changes cost after launch?
On the monthly plan and the care plan, up to 2 hours of edits a month are included. Without a plan, tell me what you need and I quote it before I start, so you decide.
What does a fixed price mean?
Before I start, you get a written quote listing the pages and features. That is the price you pay. If you ask for something extra later, I quote it first and you decide.
What happens after the monthly plan’s minimum term?
After the first 12 months, the plan carries on month to month at the same price, and you can cancel any time with 30 days’ notice.
What happens if I cancel the monthly plan?
Your domain name and your content (your words, photos and logo) are always yours to take with you. The website itself stays mine, so it goes offline when the plan ends, unless we agree a price for you to buy it outright.
Working with me
Can I edit the website myself?
Not with a drag-and-drop editor like Wix. Your site is built from scratch, which is what keeps it fast and secure. Instead of logging in, you send me the change and I make it: up to 2 hours of edits a month are included on the monthly plan and the care plan.
What if you are not around one day?
Your domain name is registered in your name, not mine, so your web address is always yours. With Build and own you also get a copy of all the site’s files, so any web developer can pick it up if you ever need them to.
Do I need to write all the words myself?
No. I can write the copy from a conversation with you, or tidy up what you have. You always approve it before it goes live.
How long does it take?
Most five-page sites take 3 to 4 weeks from the go-ahead, depending mostly on how quickly the words and photos come together.
Do you set up Google Business Profile?
Yes. I set up your Google Business Profile, or tidy the one you have, and link it to your website so customers can find you on Google Maps.
When can I reach you?
Any time. Support is 24/7 on the monthly plan and the care plan. Message me any time, day or night. If your site is down, I start fixing it as soon as I see your message. Anything else gets a reply the same day.
Can you guarantee I will rank first on Google?
No, and be wary of anyone who does: Google decides rankings, and no designer controls them. What I can promise is a fast site, search basics done properly and your Google Business Profile set up, which are the things that help local businesses get found.
Do you build online shops?
Not at the moment. If you need to sell online, I am happy to point you in the right direction.
